The studio worked on ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ because of the ‘underdog’ mentality

According to Eidos-Montréal, the studio decided to work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy because of a shared “outsider” mentality.

Speaking on the Game Creator Notebook PodcastSenior Creative Director at Eidos-Montréal, Jean-François Dugas said: “We felt that guardians of the galaxy was a team of outsiders that matched our personality.

Dugas went on to explain how studio head David Anfossi was “chasing that dream of working with a great partner like Marvel,” before approaching a few members of the senior team and saying they were lucky to ” collaborate” with Marvel. “He asked us with the Marvel franchises, what we would like best,” giving the impression that Eidos-Montreal was free to feature any Marvel character or property.

“We felt that guardians of the galaxy was a team of underdogs that matched our personality, our studio in some ways as well,” he continued.

“When we were working on Deus Exit was like ‘Nah, there’s no way they’ll make a good Deus Ex’and now with Guardians ‘(people think) there is no way that Guardians will be good.’ We feel like we’re kind of like that kind of underdog, so we started with this franchise and went into it, excited about all the possibilities it had.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy won Best Soundtrack at the 2021 Steam Awards as well as Best Story at The Game Awards. It was also nominated for Best Audio in a Video Game at the NME The awards, which will take place on March 2.
