Spotify on Samsung Galaxy Watch not working and charging continuously

New updates are added at the bottom of this story …….

The original story (published January 06, 2022) follows:

Spotify, the popular music streaming service, is available on many platforms. It can even be used on smartwatches, like the Samsung Galaxy Watch.

However, it seems that some Spotify users are having trouble trying to use the service on a Samsung Galaxy Watch. The app would be stuck in an endless loading animation.

In addition to the above, there seems to be a general issue that cannot update the Spotify app on the Samsung Galaxy Watch to its most recent version (1, 2, 3).

Spotify app for Samsung Galaxy Watch not working, stuck in loading animation

According to several reports, some Samsung Galaxy Watch users are facing an annoying issue which is not allowing them to use Spotify on their smartwatches.

Reports agree that at some point (either after logging in or choosing a song to play) the app hangs in a perpetual loading screen.

I want to play Spotify or other music app if needed through my watch. I want to play connected to the phone. No downloads. When I go to the app and play a song, it asks if I want the phone or the watch. I select the watch and bring up a Bluetooth screen. It then cycles like it’s making some kind of connection and just stops…. If I select the phone, the watch is just a controller for the phone.

In addition to the above, in some cases the remote function of the Spotify app is broken or does not work as expected because it cannot detect the user’s phone.

I just received an original Samsung Galaxy Watch (46mm, no LTE) and tried using the Spotify app from the Galaxy store. It didn’t work at all. This would allow me to connect or pair with my phone (with a prompt appearing on my phone for permissions), but once the connection / pairing process is complete, it would immerse me in an endless charging animation that only a complete reinstallation would fix it. Meanwhile, the remote control function apparently couldn’t detect my phone at all.

Many users cannot update the app, but there is a workaround

Apparently part of the problem is that there is an issue where the Spotify app cannot be updated to its latest version on the Samsung Galaxy Watch.

According to reports, when you try to update, the device seems to do it correctly. However, at the end of the process, the app is still in its previous version.

my watch was only version 1.2.15, while the app in the galaxy store claims to be version 2.5.21. Thus, the galaxy store installs an old version of the application. When I go to the store page, there is an update button that starts downloading an update and apparently ends it, with the ‘file transfer to watch’ and ‘install complete’ notifications appearing every now and then. of them. However, after that, Spotify is still version 1.2.15.

However, there is a workaround that can resolve the situation. Affected users are advised to install the latest version of Spotify on their Samsung Galaxy Watch via sideloading.

If you want to try the above, the full process (step by step) can be found in this Reddit thread. Just make sure you are using the latest version of the Spotify app.

Spotify team is in the know, working on a fix

The Spotify team has confirmed that they are already aware of the issues described above. At the moment, they are investigating them, with no estimated time of arrival for a fix.

Finally, if new developments arise in connection with this matter, new relevant information will be added to this article to keep you informed.

Update 1 (November 08)

4:39 p.m. (IST): One of the affected users noticed that the latest version of the application 2.5.40 was working correctly. But the problem is that the Galaxy Store is installing the old version, so apparently the problem is in the Galaxy Store on Galaxy Watch.

@Alex just for info, the latest version of the app 2.5.40 works fine, the problem is that the Galaxy Store is installing the old 1.2.15, so the problem is not with the app itself but with some something related to the process of posting to the Galaxy Store, or even a problem with Samsung (Source)
