Long ago in a Lego galaxy far, far away, but now available in a galaxy near you…
Nearly six years after the release of the last “Lego Star Wars” video game, Traveller’s Tales and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have teamed up with Disney to release the highly anticipated “Lego Stars Wars: The Skywalker Saga.” Presenting all nine episodic films as playable stories, the saga is complete with heaps of bricktastic gameplay, traditional Lego mischief, and plenty of unlockable characters.
While it doesn’t reinvigorate the Lego game genre, “The Skywalker Saga” serves as a fun and immersive departure from previous Lego games by incorporating an over-the-shoulder third-person point of view that resembles “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen”. Order” or even “The Last of Us” as opposed to the typical zoom-out gameplay of integers past. By placing the player directly into the action, the game is exhilarating and feels like you are actually playing the stories of Wars”.
Each episode consists of five main story missions which, while quite brief and disappointing at times, nail all the small moments and scale of the film series. Levels offer a ton of variety, from ship battles and boss fights to puzzle-based missions, but there’s a ton of side content where players can solve puzzles or platform central areas of the planet. to get Kyber Bricks. Unless you are a perfectionist in the game, collecting bricks can be quite tedious and excessive, especially since the player does not yet have the possibility of unlocking certain characters. For example, you might need a bounty hunter to blow up a door, but you haven’t unlocked one yet. Luckily, there is a free full galaxy version where you can travel freely without having to complete a main mission. It takes away the burden of having to do everything at once.
In addition to the level varieties, the character selection offers an assortment of ways to play the game. Using Jedi’s Force abilities or their lightsaber as a boomerang, the player can smash every moving object or enemy in their path to advance the story. If controlling a character wielding a blaster, the player can use cover from walls and barriers to take out enemies at close range or range.
Still, “The Skywalker Saga”‘s most exciting gameplay stems from white-knuckle space battles. From destroying Trade Federation ships in “The Phantom Menace” to attempting Trench Run as an X-Wing in “A New Hope”, the dogfights in the game are a lot of fun to go through and one highlights of the game. In addition, there are a wide variety of spaceships you can choose from to fly over the galaxy, from the Millennium Falcon to the Razor Crest.
Aside from its excessive secondary content (and no character creator), the game has a few technical issues and glitches. There were a few times when I was gaming, and the screen was just blank with game audio still playing in the background. Another time my character was knocked halfway into the ground, prompting me to restart the game. A ridiculous glitch that has gone viral on TikTok shows that every time you hit a kid with a lightsaber, you can run through the level as long as you keep pressing Square or X.
Overall, “Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga” doesn’t reinvent the saga, but for Lego and “Star Wars” fans, there’s a ton of fun to be had with the game. , each episodic story’s campaign offers fast-paced interplanetary fun with a plethora of action, puzzles, and humor. The empire hits the brick in this fun and engaging entry to the “Lego Star Wars” saga.
