TWP CENTER. – Many feline friends in Beaver County are looking for their forever home, but a new program could help them shine with potential pet parents.
Hoping to improve the adoption process for rescued cats, the Beaver County Humane Society (BCHS) has announced that it will be part of this year’s “Cat Pawsitive” training program. The Humane Society will join 34 other shelters in increasing feline adoption rates and teaching shelter staff and volunteers how to “maintain and improve cat mojo.”
“I am thrilled and honored that the Beaver County Humane Society has been chosen to participate in the Cat Pawsitive program,” said Susan Salyards, Executive Director of BCHS. “As a shelter with limited resources, we are continually looking for new and innovative ways to help save lives. We hope that the Beaver County Humane Society’s participation in the project will expand our ability to provide positive outcomes for cats with behavioral challenges.
The educational program was created by Jackson Galaxy, cat behavior expert and host of Animal Planet’s “My Cat from Hell.” Benefits of the program include improving the social skills of cats during adoptions, enriching the daily lives of animals in shelters, and improving the level of care provided by shelter workers.
According to the statement from the Beaver County Humane Society, feline specialists from the Cat Pawsitive program will work with the humane society until early April for the new training. Additionally, online courses will help train Humane Society staff throughout the spring, and volunteers will be able to contact the specialist with any specific questions they have.
