The Galaxy S22 has been a big hit for Samsung so far, but the new flagship series isn’t without its issues and controversies. The last issue concerns the Galaxy S22 Ultra, as Samsung’s new Note model seems unable to maintain a GPS connection.
This is the kind of issue that would impact any app that relies on location data. You will need a GPS for Google Maps and other navigation apps. And you will also use it whenever you want to share your location with someone else.
Current controversies
Before we dive into GPS issues, let’s look at other Galaxy S22 issues.
I recently highlighted four reasons not to buy the Galaxy S22, even when better price deals roll in. One of those concerns the Galaxy S22’s ability to survive drops, but it’s immediately fixable. The Galaxy S22 Ultra seems particularly fragile in such accidents. You can reduce the risk by getting protective gear from day one.
Next we have misleading Samsung buyers regarding the display efficiency of the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus. Similarly, the 45W fast charging support available on the Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra seems like a marketing gimmick.
The biggest issue is the performance of the phone. The throttling issue that has been widely covered for the past few weeks could be hiding a bigger problem with Samsung’s flagships. It may be a chip, a cooling problem. Samsung said in an explanation to shareholders that it did not cut costs, however.
That is to say, the Galaxy S22 series is already drawing attention to the kind of flaws you wouldn’t expect from a flagship. The GPS signal loss issue falls into the same category.

Troubleshoot camera quality issues, leaker ice universe also observed on Twitter that the Galaxy S22 has been Samsung’s best-selling flagship for years. But also the one who suffers the most problems. The leaker previously criticized Samsung for the throttling issue.
The GPS connectivity complaints come from elsewhere, however. Android world detailed the issue, explaining that Galaxy S22 Ultra users will experience GPS issues on first boot. The problem may persist even after updates and the GPS will not work.
A post on a Samsung community forum in Europe has some 202 replies showing that some Galaxy S22 Ultra buyers have encountered the GPS issue. But the problem does not seem to be widespread at the moment.
There is no solution either. The blog notes that resetting the APN settings may work. You may also consider resetting network settings. Either way, this may be an issue with the phone rather than the apps that require location data to work.
If you have encountered issues with the Galaxy S22 Ultra GPS, you may consider contacting Samsung for assistance.
