Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro: everything we know

(Pocket-lint) – Samsung is expected to announce the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 before the end of the year, and numerous rumors suggest that the company is planning to refresh its smartwatch range too.

Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic in 2021, although rumors point to a Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro for 2022.

That’s all we’ve heard so far about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy smartwatch – or smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.

Release date and price

  • August 10, 2022?
  • August 26 on sale?
  • From 300€?

It was originally claimed that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 would arrive sometime in the second half of 2022, which made sense as it would follow the release cycle of the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 3 models, which arrived in August of their respective years.

Rumors then identified a release date for the Galaxy Watch 5 as August 10, 2022, with an on-sale date of August 26, 2022. This has yet to be confirmed by Samsung at this time.

A full list of Galaxy Watch 5 models has been leaked with prices and, while unconfirmed, this gives us an idea of how much the Watch 5 models will cost. According to the leak, the Bluetooth Watch 5 40mm model will start at €300, with the LTE model €50 more, while the Watch 5 Pro LTE 45mm model will top out at €540. The standard 44mm Watch 5 is said to start at €350, while the Watch 5 Pro Bluetooth model is said to cost €490.

Design and display

  • Watch 5: 40 mm and 44 mm
  • Watch 5 Pro: 45/46mm

There have been a few reports suggesting that there will be two Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 models. There will be a standard model and a Pro model with the standard model similar in design to the Watch 4, offering a sleeker and sportier finish. . , while the Pro model will resemble the Watch 4 Classic.

The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is also said to be less mechanical and ditch the rotating bezel – which we’ll be sad about – but it could still offer a capacitive bezel. Other rumors have said that we can expect materials like titanium and sapphire on the Watch 5 Pro.

We have also heard that there will be two Galaxy Watch 5 models. It is said that there will be a standard 40mm model in Phantom Black, Silver and Pink Gold colors, and a standard 44mm model in Phantom Black, Silver and Sapphire colors. . The same leaker claimed that there will be a model of the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro model with a 46mm case – although 45mm has also been claimed – and Phantom Black and Silver colors. These patterns have also been reiterated by EvLeaks which has a strong track record.

EvLeaks has also released some renders of the devices, showing both the Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro from all angles, some of which you can see at the top of this section.

The display sizes haven’t appeared in the leaks yet, though we’d expect them to be circular and AMOLED.

Hardware and Specifications

  • Watch 5: 276mAh (40mm), 397mAh (44mm)
  • Watch 5 Pro (45mm): 572mAh

Most of the current Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 hardware rumors focus on its battery life. Initial reports claimed that the Galaxy Watch 5 could come with a 276mAh battery compared to the Galaxy Watch 4’s 247mAh battery, while the Watch 5 Classic could come with a 397mAh battery compared to the 361 mAh capacity of the Watch 4 Classic. It’s possible that the Watch 5 Classic’s battery is just the larger standard model of the Galaxy Watch 5.

There have also been reports of a Watch 5 Pro with a 572mAh battery and there have been claims that the wireless charging speed will increase to 10W instead of 5W.

The Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are both reportedly available in Bluetooth and LTE options.

Not much else has been claimed hardware-wise yet, but we’ll update this feature as we hear more.

Features

  • Heart rate monitoring
  • Sleep monitoring with REM
  • Multiple sports modes
  • EKG

We haven’t heard much about the features we can expect from the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 models, although we expect the new devices to run on Wear OS 3 and offer the same as the Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic, plus a few extras. It is said that they will run Wear OS 3.5 along with One UI Watch 4.5.

So we expect to see heart rate monitoring, sleep monitoring with REM steps, fall detection, multiple sport modes, ECG, blood pressure, blood oxygen and body composition on the models. Watch 5. It is not yet known what extras might appear.
