The LA Galaxy announced on Tuesday the event that has been rumored for a few weeks, that they will be hosting a pre-season football event at Coachella. Officially called the Coachella Valley Invitational, it will take place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio – venue for the Coachella Music Festival, among other events – with a total of six teams set to participate.
“We are thrilled to add a new preseason competition that will help grow football in an area of Southern California known for its entertainment,” LA Galaxy President Chris Klein said in a statement. “We are grateful to Empire Polo Club, Goldenvoice and AEG for helping bring football to the Coachella Valley.”
The first Galaxy team and the LA Galaxy II teams will participate in the invitational. Here are the games listed involving the G’z.
The games are closed to the public, but it looks like there’s probably some sort of broadcast or streaming option for the invite games. We will update this part as we learn more.
The other two teams participating in the invitation are DC United and LAFC, but it doesn’t look like there will be an El Trafico pre-season, at least not in the desert.
