Charlotte FC’s historic home opener will face arguably the most iconic side in MLS history.
Here’s everything you need to know about our enemy:
It’s no coincidence that the team located in Star City is called the Galaxy. Los Angeles is home to Hollywood’s many “stars” and the club has done justice to its city’s reputation.
LA Galaxy was one of the 10 founding clubs of Major League Soccer. They started competing when the league debuted in 1996 and in their first season won the Western Conference but fell short in the MLS Cup Final against DC United.
They would continue to be competitive in subsequent years, winning their first tackle in the 1998 season, finishing with the most points, winning the Supporter’s Shield.
With the help of United States Men’s National Team legend Cobi Jones, they won the 2000 CONCACAF Cup, the 2001 and 2005 US Open Cup, the 2002 Supporter’s Shield and the 2002 and 2005 MLS Cups.
But it was when the Galaxy signed global superstar, David Beckham, from Real Madrid that they began to gain global recognition. Signing the English national team and former Manchester United player would not only change the Galaxy but the league forever.
