It’s been a tough week for American society, so we’re clinging to our relative comfort a bit more than we’ve been in recent weeks. things like playing Yu Gi Oh! games and fun Tamagotchi Tricks are what we call “tech comfort”, and we indulge in it without shame.
This week on gadgets, we look at the complaining woman. We pushed the Google Assistant on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 after companies announced its availability sooner than expected and was almost immediately frustrated with the update’s lack of transparency. The Google Assistant on Wear OS still has a ways to go until it becomes the wrist-based digital assistant of our dreams.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the hosting table, we’re loving the experience with the Apple WatchSE. It’s easy to use, lets you use Apple Pay to access NYC public transit, and it doesn’t scream for a charge just four hours out of the charger.
Then it’s time to talk about cloud game applications: what is it? What kind of games do they offer? And are they a legitimate physical console replacement? Your co-hosts aren’t quite convinced they’re going to revolutionize the gaming industry, and they may even end up hurting indie game developers if they get too big without considering the stakes. But it’s pretty cool to appear in the latest console title without shelling out hundreds and hundreds of dollars for setup.
Finally, we’re doing something a little different with our final segment of the show. We talk about what we don’t fan over, and currently, these are screens in the car. This week a New York Times opinion piece reinforced our position that adding more touchscreens and displays inside the car does nothing to alleviate distracted driving, even with a digital assistant at the helm. Buttons and dials forever.
