Galaxy Backbone says ICT sector’s contribution of 18.44% to Nigeria’s GDP is a sign of growth in the digital economy – TechEconomy.ng

Galaxy Backbone (GBB) Limited described the ICT sector’s 18.44% contribution to Nigeria’s GDP as a sign of growth in the digital economy; and again reached out for partnership with private sector operators, especially members of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to deliver critical digital infrastructure across Nigeria.

Professor Muhammed Bello Abubakar, Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone, said that GBB, an integrated ICT services and solutions provider under the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, has always maintained its position as a collaborator and not as a competitor to private operators in the ICT sector.

These were featured in Professor Abubakar’s goodwill message as ICTEL 2022 exhibition and exhibition organized by LCCI at the Muson Centre, Lagos.

Speaking through Mr. Dauda Oyeleye, Group Head, Business Development at Galaxy Backbone Limited, the Managing Director/CEO said he was happy to be a part of Expo 2022 with the theme; “Ensuring an efficient digital infrastructure in Nigeria”.

“We are delighted to partner with this leading Chamber of Commerce which in many ways is a platform for promoting trade and industry in this most diverse and advanced commercial city, no only in Nigeria, but all over sub-Saharan Africa.

The digital world

“In these two years, the world and even our nation, Nigeria, have had extraordinary times. The amount of data generated by public and private organizations and individuals has created new opportunities and experiences that have yet to be well documented and explored.

“The digital world has accelerated in 2020 during the pandemic, so today we have a lot of transactions reaching billions of dollars that start and end on different digital platforms and in this way a lot of data is generated. This data should be stored safely somewhere and also backed up to ensure and prevent unforeseen circumstances. Organizations must continue to design innovative ways to store and back up their data to ensure business continuity.

GBB digital infrastructure and services

“As you know, Galaxy Backbone is the digital infrastructure and shared services platform for public and private organizations.

“We are playing an active role in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey, championed by the Honorable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami.”

He said they are proud of the investment and work done and continue to do so to ensure that the backbone and network infrastructure that powers Nigeria’s digital economy is secure, available and efficient.

Galaxy BackBone Tier IV data center ready for launch

“Our world-class Tier III data center and soon to be Tier IV data center for cloud and disaster recovery purposes is available to everyone and later today we’ll be diving deep into its enormous potential for Nigerian small and medium enterprises, businesses and government.

“Once again I would like to let the Chairman, Managing Director, Members of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and all the distinguished guests seated here today (sic) know that Galaxy Backbone is very pleased to be working with you and to support the cause towards the advancement of commerce and industry in our country.

He said this is because GBB believes this is what drives the development and growth of any economy.

“As we evolve as an organization, we are aware of the need to establish great partners who would work with us in line with our vision to be the leading catalyst for digital inclusion in Africa.

“We are very clear in spirit that we cannot succeed alone, which is why we are committed to collaborating with organizations and platforms like yours to advance the goals and objectives of our respective organizations. With ICT contributing almost 19% of our country’s GDP today and the realities of our vibrant and energetic young population of innovative tech entrepreneurs stretching from different parts of this city of Lagos and across the country and the realities of our growing digital economy, we are ready as an organization to reposition ourselves and advance the growth and prosperity of our country.

And what better way to do that, than to support what the Lagos Chamber of Commerce is doing.

“I would like to underscore the importance of all of us continuing to work together to create effective and productive digital infrastructure that will fuel and propel our nation’s digital economy.”

Professor Abubakar expressed the hope that in no time, Nigeria would be listed as one of the most advanced digital economies operating outside of Africa.
