Samsung is expected to launch the high-end Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 later this year, but this report suggests there’s an affordable foldable smartphone out there.
Samsung’s next foldable smartphone – the Galaxy Z Fold 4 – is expected to release alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 4 later this year. The rumor mill is already swirling, suggesting that the Z Fold 4 will be a high-end foldable Samsung smartphone, just like its previous avatar. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3 is currently one of the cheapest foldable phones available at a price of Rs. 84,999.
But the good news is that Samsung is probably entering the affordable segment of foldable smartphones. At least that’s what the latest report suggests! The report comes from ETNews in Korea, which claims that Samsung will offer an entry-level foldable smartphone for less than $770 (around 60,000 rupees) by 2024. Samsung wants to accelerate the popularization of foldable phones by making them more affordable for wider range simply by excluding some premium features available on Fold and Flip models.
“Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Experience (MX) division recently initiated a product planning and development project for the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip low-end foldable smartphones,” a Korean IT News report mentioned. Currently, Samsung has a wide range of users while offering the high-end smartphone series such as Samsung Galaxy S22 on the one hand and on the other hand it caters to mid-range and budget buyers with its A and F series smartphones.
Samsung’s strategy now is to create a foldable smartphone version of the ‘Galaxy A’ with the entry-level foldable smartphone lineup, the report suggests. Samsung aims to rapidly increase its foldable phone market share with better price competitiveness. Samsung’s budget and mid-range smartphones play an important role in Samsung’s smartphone expansion, as low-cost smartphones tend to boost sales. With the same strategy, Samsung also plans to expand its foldable smartphone segment from 10 million to 15 million units.
